Day 11: Twilight and Olympic NP
Before coming, I told Ella about the Twilight book series (which I loved) and that we’d be visiting Forks, WA which is the setting of the books. Well, she found the movies on Netflix and finished them all before we left. Today the Twilight movies leave Netflix so she was excited to have finished them and thought it was ironic that we get to visit Forks today on their last day on Netflix.
We first visited Ruby Beach. After walking down to the beach, you have to climb over enormous driftwood/trees, and then the beach is full of round, flat stones. It was very foggy but beautiful and a great place to touch the Pacific Ocean again! We had lunch and headed into the Hoh Rainforest section of Olympic National Park. A black bear ran out in front of us as we were entering. Unfortunately we couldn’t get all the way to the visitor center because the line was a 2 hour wait and we needed gas. *Note to self to really gas up before going all the way into the rainforest!* The best radio station in the area is named…Twilight 96.7
We went to Forks for gas and to check out the town of Twilight!! It was tiny, of course, but we saw the Dew Drop restaurant, Forks High School, the Cullen house (now an inn), the Swan house (now an air b&b--also look at the upper windows in the photo), and the tiny hospital (last picture). I think a family thought we were crazy as we drove around town with our little Twilight map trying to find the locations and we kept passing them.
Then we went to the Olympic National Park visitor center. By that point, there wasn't much we could do. We were happy that we got to experience the beach and also driving in through the rainforest, even if we didn't make it to the official visitor center there. When we left, we finally found our first Walmart to stock up one last time with groceries and a couple new pairs of shower shoes that the boys were in need of. The campground had a nice laundry facility so we did one last round of laundry, relaxed, and hung out.
