Day 4: Thousand Islands NP and Driving
Today we crossed to border and visited Thousand Islands National Park in Ontario, Canada. It is such a beautiful place. We got there early so we had it all to ourselves, along with the flocks of Canadian Geese. We got our picture in the iconic red Adirondack chairs that are in the Canadian National Parks, enjoyed the coast, and then got our National Park passport books stamped. It was crazy because they JUST got a stamp for passport books yesterday! Many people wanted one and we were the first to use it! Then we headed out for a long day of driving. The kids and I started our schoolwork today. We always do "Duchette Summer School" which the kids hate, but it always serves them well in the fall. This year, Evan has a little general information review book plus he will read 3 books. Ella has a big SAT prep book that she'll work through and listen to an audiobook. Blake has a variety of things that he is working on and has a summer reading book and project to do. I signed up for a graduate course at PSU that is all online and about media literacy. Jason is driving! lol We spent most of the day in Canada on some beautiful highways and then crossed the border back into the U.S. near Detroit. It took a while because there was a car in our line that was being thoroughly searched. By the time we made it to Pokagon State Park in Indiana, we were exhausted so we made dinner and went to bed. It was a hot day (upper 90s), but we spent our day in the car with the AC, so we didn't feel it like our friends at home did, I'm sure.
